Umoya has always had long range plans that stretch beyond what they do now, which is primarily providing connectivity between computer systems, telephones and the people who use them. Connectivity is only a part of enabling communications. They believe that in the future they should be enabling effective and efficient use of resources, initially through managing connectivity, but ultimately through providing innovative software solutions.
staffroom
Umoya has moved into that envisioned future faster than they thought they would, thanks to some bright young minds who work there. Tim Keller was recently invited to present at Microsoft Developer Days conferences on the use of PHP with IIS, effectively marrying Microsoft and Open Source technologies. He was voted best speaker at all three conferences. Tim heads up Umoya's software development and is currently focused on a product they have dubbed "staffroom". staffroom is an innovative Web2.0 offering aimed at solving many of the administrative headaches facing teachers. You can find more on staffroom here.
The platform on which staffroom is built is ready to implement some exciting ideas in a number of fields, not least of which is the provision of web "dashboards" to Umoya's connectivity customers; giving them the ability to monitor the health of their networks at a glance. Expect exciting things from this team over the next few years.
